haircuts for Lily and Mama

Lily and Mama went together to get haircuts today. We have been debating what to do with her hair for 6 months. We are new at little girl's hair. It was in her eyes when she came home, but was really not long enough to cut. It has grown out a lot since then, but it is so fine and hard to manage. Every time I cut the boy's hair, she wanted me to give her a buzz cut, like the one she had in some of her referral photos.

Here is a "before" taken yesterday for church. This is a dress Jen's aunt got her for Christmas. It is a little big, but not too bad. I said she looked really international as a Chinese-American girl in a French beret made of Scottish tartan plaid!
Here she is after her "first" haircut. It is basically just a trim. The hairdresser said her hair would not do well with bangs. She was a little disappointed when she got home and realized that it's basically the same, but shorter, and that it still falls in her eyes!
These were taken just before bed, so it's a little messy... and FULL of static! Because her hair is so fine, the static caused by the cold, dry, winter air makes it VERY difficult to work with.

  1. Lovin' the new hair cut, she's adorable. I don't know anything about asian hair but I know that hair bows on alligator clips worked well in Allie's hair when she was little and her hair was pretty fine. Just clip the bangs to the side. I also would use goody brand "ouchless" rubberbands to hold the front back so it wouldn't fall in her face and then a pretty bow to hide the rubberband. Pretty hair bows are my vice...I'll go through Allie's and send you some! And where is Jens new Do? We'd like to see that too!

  2. Welcome to the world of bows! :) I'm so grateful Mallory has finally accepted them and decided they're not meant to be ripped out and tossed. I'm struggling with when to get her hair cut, too. Her's is worse as she has some curl to it, so she ends up with snarly hair in the back in the mornings that just doesn't want to cooperate. I'm back and forth on bangs/no bangs, but a friend says none is better - you don't have to constantly have them trimmed, so it'll probably be better for Lily in the long run. Try the smaller kind of barrettes that are the kind you sort of bend in the middle (if that makes sense; all these years, I still don't know what they're called!) My bigger ones are too lose for M's fine hair, but the smaller ones stay in better. L looks adorable!

  3. What a fun birthday outing. A very girly thing to do of course... :) She looks a sweet as ever. Hopefully we'll find a date to get together since we haven't seen you guys in a while and John keeps asking when he'll get to see the kids... :)
